NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE OR WHERE YOU ARE ON LIFE’S JOURNEY,

YOU’RE WELCOME HERE.  ~ GOD IS STILL SPEAKING.

(Above motto of the United Church of Christ (UCC) is embraced by SouthShore)

The SouthShore United Church of Christ  offers two worship services:

  • Every Sunday at 8:30 AM in the Chapel a brief and informal service of Holy Communion is offered.  Everyone is welcome at the Table at the SouthShore United Church of Christ
  • A traditional liturgical worship service is offered in the Sanctuary at 10:00 AM.  The SouthShore United Church of Christ honors the traditional historic liturgical forms of the Church, while incorporating contemporary language that speaks to persons of the 21st century.  Themes of worship are biblically based, built around the Revised Common Lectionary used in most mainline Protestant churches.

The United Church of Christ was formed in 1957; the result of the coming together of four distinct denominational bodies: The Congregational Churches, The Reformed Church in the United States, the Christian Churches, and The Evangelical Synod of North America.  You might be familiar with the Congregationalists, as they became known as the Pilgrims who settle Plymouth Colony in 1620.  The United Church of Christ prides itself on being the most liberal Protestant denomination in the country emphasizing an "extravagant welcome" of all persons based on the denomination's radically inclusive theology.  The UCC is known for its progressive stand on gender and racial equality, and is Open and Affirming regarding persons of LGBT orientation, believing that ordination to the ministry should be open to all persons, while advocating strongly for equality in marriage for all persons.  The denomination places a strong emphasis on being a multi-cultural, just peace Church, and is an outspoken advocate for social justice.  The United Church of Christ believes that God is still speaking and so do we at SouthShore United Church of Christ.
